THE STORY OF THE BULLET BRA

You either love them or hate them, but most want to try them! Bullet Bra’s were the ultimate lingerie accessory for women of the 1940s.  It created a ‘Sweater Girl’ look made famous by Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe.

Also affectionately known as ‘the cone bra’ or ‘the torpedo’, the bullet bra certainly made its presence felt at that time and is now reliving its revival.

The bullet bra has cone cups that accentuate the breast giving the wearer ‘pointy’ assets, and combined with a tight fitting sweater the ultimate ‘Pin Up Girl’ look can be achieved.

The original Bullet Bras were made from Nylon and Satin and were reinforced with circular stitching.  Manufacturers for Vintaga Retro Lingerie have adapted original patterns to create the modern day version of the bra, and they ensure that the style and the original designs are not compromised.

By 1979 around 90 million Bullet Bras were sold world wide, but were about to go out of fashion. Women’s needs were changing.  The introduction of underwire and padding produced a more natural and comfortable shape that women wanted.  As the lingerie market flooded with more suitable bras, the Bullet Bra faded away.

All was not lost - Madonna famously resurrected the Bullet Bra during her ‘Blonde Ambition’ tour in the 1990s and with thanks to modern day burlesque performers, the bullet bra love affair has started all over again.

Once again, women want the ‘Pin Up Girl’ look and the vintage style lingerie of bygone days.

Each bullet bra has been finished with distinctive circular stitching around each cup giving this bullet bra it the unique cone shape, a shape that was very popular with the ladies during 1940’S and 1950’S.

Why do fashion companies insist on using white models over different races?

"Its gotten to where I'm suprised to see a model of colour in lingerie" - Treacle - Lingerie Addict

This comment has been on my mind since I read it on Lingerie Addict's facebook page a while back. 

Lingerie Buyer has also picked up on it, so the debate surrounding 'models of colour' is one that could be questioned forever.

Vintaga use models of all shapes, sizes and colour as we feel it's important to represent our customers correctly.

The UK is not a completely White, British Size 0, nation - we are a multi-cultural society and our marketing and advertising in this country should represent that.

I agree that not enough models from different race groups are represented well enough within the fashion industry, and fashion companies need to take a serious look at the

type customers who are buying their lingerie

Its my opionion that by not using a variety of models they are putting their ranges into categories: **Clothes photographed on a very thin white model will only look as good on likewise customers! How wrong they are!

Open your eyes fashion companies, there are plenty of stunningly beautiful 'models of colour' out there of whom your companies would benefit enormously from using.

I stand with Treacle on this debate, a debate that will no doubt rage on for a while yet.

A basque is great way of perfecting your figure and this one is no expection.

Offering firm support where you need it most and has the added bonus of a slimming affect.

Basques were designed off the back of corsets, and are a lot less restrictive. They are also much easier to put on.

The perfect girdle for the perfect shape - Kiss Me Deadly

The Vargas Longline Girdle from Kiss Me Deadly is one of Vintaga’s best selling longline Girdles.

Made from a controlling mesh, it has a double layer in the front panel to help hold back those tummies.  Kiss Me Deadly’s now usual waist reinforcement tape has been added to the girdle that shapes figures effortlessly.

Unusually for a girdle these days, the Vargas Longline Girdle from Kiss Me Deadly has been cut high and back hook and eye fastening and incorporates the growing trend of metal buckles and clips and finished with large satin bow at the waist.

Smaller bow detail has been added to the suspender straps, but dont worry, they sit flat under your clothes!

Which type of Bridal Lingerie suits my Dress?

Beautiful lingerie shouldn’t be restricted to your wedding day, what about the days, months and years after the big day?

Every bride knows the importance of stunning wedding lingerie and its imperative to every bride to get it right.

The main emphasis when planning the wedding of your dreams, is the beautiful dress along with invitations, flowers, the cake, venues and lingerie will be at the bottom of that very long ‘to do’ list!  The choice of lingerie is staggering so it’s little wonder buying lingerie is a task that most brides leave until the last minute.

Choices seem to be endless.  Do you go for separate bra and pants, bra and suspender belt, a basque or an all in one corselette?

So, what are your options?

Wearing foundation wear is the most effective way to carry off a wedding dress to perfection, after all you have endured months of dress fittings, alterations, and the constant worry of ‘will it fit’ on the day!  It makes perfect sense to make sure that the correct lingerie sits unnoticed under the dress.

A strapless dress would obviously require a strapless bra.  But strapless bras tend to cause the bride to check every 5 minutes that it is in the right place and that nothing is on show that shouldn’t be! 

Vintaga Retro Lingerie suggests a basque would be better suited to a strapless gown.  A basque is longer in length ensuring that the garment stays in place all day. A well fitted basque will not slip down thus the bride will not suffer any unnecessary embarrassment.

Now for the dress with straps! The lingerie choices here are a little more flexible. 

If you have chosen a dress that is tight fitting or very sheer, there is a change of underwear being seen through it.  A corselette would be a good choice for such a dress.

Vintaga stock a ‘seamless’ corselette – that will to undetected. Even the suspender straps and clips are flat, so this really is a good lingerie garment to complement the tighter fitting dress.

More floaty dresses can withstand seams and the lingerie combinations are endless.  A bra and pant set, a corselette, basque or even a girdle and bra, would all look absolutely fabulous under the dress.

Vintaga’s selection would be a side fixing suspender belt.  Trips to the bathroom can be an absolute nightmare at the best of times in a wedding dress, but imagine having to do up belts from the back as well.  This garment is easy to fasten and looks fabulous with or without the dress.

However, the look still has to be completed.  Stockings. 

With plenty of variety out there today you will be spoilt for choice.  But our advice is ...DO NOT opt for tights!  Not only are they are uncomfortable but they are a real pain when the bathroom beckons, nor are they sexy.
